Instead of arriving at around noon, Abbi and Dan didn’t end up arriving until four o’clock, which was alarmingly closer to candle lighting than their originally scheduled ETA. Abbi parked the car in the enormous parking garage, and leaned back, exhausted. “Well, we’re here,” she said, the enormity of everything hitting her. “Do you know where you’re staying?” The resort boasted one very large hotel, and then a small village of little cabins.

“Somewhere in the hotel,” Dan said. “Past that, I have no idea. Nor do I have any idea how any of this works.”

“Neither do I,” Abbi said. “But we should probably get going. You go first, then I’ll go, just in case?” She sighed. “It’s not like I can responsibly spend three days hiding in the parking garage, right?”

“Is it going to be that bad?”

“No, it won’t. I’m being a baby about it.”

“Well, there’s only so big this place is.”

“Was that supposed to make me feel better?”

“Maybe? I was going to say, we’ll probably end up bumping into each other at some point. If you need a place to hide from your family, we’ll figure something out.”

“Will your family ask questions if I show up?”

“What kind of questions would they ask?” Dan asked.

“I don’t know. But if I introduced myself, wouldn’t that complicate everything?”

Dan thought about it. “I mean, maybe? But your last name isn’t all that uncommon and I don’t know if I’ve ever told my parents your first name.”

“My first name or the name of fake Abbi?” Abbi asked. “Which is also Abbi. I’m so tired.”

“I didn’t tell them your name when I told them I was getting a ride up here with you. I just said it was with a neighbor.”

“Hopefully everything will be fine and I won’t have to plan an elaborate escape,” Abbi said.

“Good luck,” Dan said. “If I somehow don’t see you, we’ll talk on Monday night?”

“Sounds good. Enjoy yuntif. Good luck to you, too.”

“Thanks.”

Abbi waved as Dan left the car, feeling sadly bereft. But it was too close to yom tov for her to have any serious thoughts about her current feelings about anybody, Dan, or otherwise.

“Abbi!” Ziva sang as Abbi finally opened the door to the hotel room they were sharing. “Candle lighting is in two hours, and Layla’s going to be out of the shower soon.”

“Hi,” Abbi panted, dropping her things down in relief. “Is everyone else here already?”

“You were the last one,” Ziva said. “Did you text the chat to let everyone know that you got in?”

“Yeah, when I parked.” Abbi looked around the room. There were two beds that Ziva and Layla had shoved together for optimal three-person sleeping. “Well, this is nice. Squishy, but nice.”

Ziva grinned. “Cousin sleepover again. We haven’t had one like this since when, Layla’s bat mitzvah?”

“Either that or Sarah’s,” Abbi said. “I don’t remember.”

Layla opened the door to the bathroom, a cloud of steam billowing behind her. “Hiiiiii!”

“Wait, when did you get your hair done?” Abbi asked. “You didn’t send pictures! It looks so good!”

“I posted them, but you haven’t checked any social media in forever.
